Beginner's Guide: Architecture
Take a peep out the nearest window. What do you see? Chances are the first thing your eyes settle on is bricks and mortar – a building in other words. Depending upon where you live, that could be a Victorian terrace, a cul-de-sac of modern detached houses, the dreamlike spires of a soaring cathedral, or a towering great block of flats. But it doesn’t really matter what type of architecture you’re used to seeing, because buildings of all shapes, sizes and styles make exciting and challenging subjects that can be enjoyed by beginners and experienced photographers alike. From crumbling castles and magnificent cathedrals to state-of-the-art skyscrapers and contemporary monuments, suitable subjects can be found literally everywhere you go. Even better, you don’t need the communication skills of a portrait photographer, the expert knowledge of a nature photographer, or the lightning-quick reflexes of an action photographer to make the most of them – just an appreciation of light and composition, a little patience and lots of imagination. This month’s Beginner’s Guide puts you on the road to architectural success.

Creative Digital Techniques: Panoramics
