BUILD QUALITY: As you’d expect
from a big camera brand like Nikon,
no corners have been cut when it
comes to the SB-900’s build quality,
as the command wheel and buttons
all feel bullet-proof. Make no mistake, the SB-900 will take years of
everyday use from pro snappers.
FEATURES: Being Nikon’s flagship flashgun, it’s no surprise that the SB-900 has it all. The rotary dial provides easy navigation around the abundant functions, including the FX/DX identification system that recognises which format DSLR you’re using. A flashtube protection system prevents overheating while the diffuser panel gives coverage as wide as 14mm.

PERFORMANCE: Nikon’s flash system have been highly regarded for many years and the fully-featured SB-900 continues the trend. Images show neutral tone, although there was a slight warmth to the portraits an while exposures were good, they were slightly darker than the Canon and Metz results.
VERDICT: The SB-900 has all the functions to allow the photographer to be as creative as they wish.
