Samsung SPF-105P Digital Frame Review

Guide price: £150

Digital SLR Photography Test: February 2009

A great looking screen with a huge memory for images!

Digital SLR Photography editor, Daniel Lezano, reviews the Samsung SPF-105F digital frame

With a 10.2in widescreen LCD display, this is a serious digital frame, equivalent of a 5.25x8.75in picture size. Samsung hasn’t skimped on the resolution – the 1024x600 pixel count is on par with some old, full-size monitors and gives a crisp, clear image.

In fact, the device can be used as a second monitor, perfect for showing tool palettes or Vista/OSX widgets. Pictures can be uploaded to the frame by CompactFlash, MemoryStick, SD card, USB flash drive, or directly from a computer. It has a massive 1GB of storage space – enough for hundreds, if not thousands of images. It also accepts MP3 sound files, which can provide the backing track to your slideshow.
They can play through the built-in stereo speakers, or be listened to through headphones. Though the unit can be run, like most, from an AC adapter, it does also have a rechargeable battery. Unfortunately, this will only last for a one hour slideshow, making it useful only for brief shows.
General operation is a little fiddly and can be slow when using a memory card or flash drive, but it speeds up considerably when using the internal memory. Gently touch the frame and a series of buttons appear, allowing you to fully customise your slideshow.

VERDICT
A great looking screen with a huge memory for images, despite poor battery life it’s great value for money
