
Pioneer to manufacture DSLRs?
Pioneer may be adding digital cameras to its line up of consumer electronics, following a deal with Asia Optical Group
Pioneer has announced it will be entering the digital camera market, but will DSLRs be on the menu?
The company has entered a deal with Suning, who will distribute the cameras.
According to a press release issued by Pioneer, 'An ODM will be used to manufacture the digital cameras. Making use of the partnership with Asia Optical Group (hereinafter “Asia Optical”), which has the technological strength and manufacturing expertise, products that are highly competitive in both quality and price will be produced.'
The digital cameras will apparently be manufactured in Brazil, and will be first available in China.
Pioneer first started working with Chinese retailer Suning in November 2009.
Pioneer hopes to sell 500,000 digital cameras by 2015.
