Sharp announces world's thinnest CMOS sensor

Sharp has announced the world's thinnest Image Stabilizing CMOS Sensor

Sharp has opened up the possibility of ultra-thin cameras with the introduction of the thinnest Image Stabilizing CMOS Sensor.

Sharp's sensor can take shots up to 12.1 megapixels in resolution as well as 1080p video.

Accorsing to Sharp, the sensor works well in low-light situations because of its stabilisation feature that uses a lens-shift system.

Samples of the sensor are being sent out to manufacturers now, while full-scale shipments will begin in January next year. Sharp plans to produce arouns 100,000 sensors a month.

The sensors will cost around $150 each.
