Nikon announces new DSLR, the D60

Nikon UK has unveiled their latest DSLR camera, the D60. Aimed at beginners to SLR photography, the camera is one of the smallest that Nikon has ever produced.

The D60, which should be available from the end of February, has a 10.2megapixel CCD sensor and Nikon’s EXPEED processor. The D60 also features Nikon’s dust reduction system, a vibrating Image Sensor Cleaning function and the ‘Airflow Control System’, which ‘leads air within the mirror box towards small ducts near the base, directing dust away from the image sensor’. Both of these features should help to keep images blemish free. The camera also features a Retouch Menu, which allows users to enhance their images in camera. This allows users to finish their images in-camera, applying Filter Effects, or the Cross Screen feature, which simulates flare from bright light sources. NEF (RAW) files can also be processed and finished in camera, including with the Quick Retouch option, which is claimed to eliminate the need to process your images on a computer. In JPEG format, it is also possible to create stop-motion animations Other features include Active D-Lighting, which automatically compensates for difficult lighting conditions; and the Eye Sensor, which turns the LCD screen off when the viewfinder is being used, turning it back on again when the eye moves away.
