Nikon UK announces the AF-S Micro NIKKOR 60mm f/2.8G ED lens, a new 1:1 macro lens for close-up photography. Nikon’s new macro lens features a Silent Wave Motor, which makes autofocusing quick and quiet, and an internal focusing mechanism, which should facilitate the use of filters. This is also the first lens of its kind to feature two aspherical lens elements. Nikon claims that this minimizes lens aberration and coma. The M/A focusing allows easy switching between automatic and manual (priority) focus. The rounded nine-blade diaphragm opening should help to create a well integrated 'bokeh' effect, creating a natural looking blurred background. The Extra-low Dispersion (ED) glass element reduces chromatic aberration while providing higher resolution and sharper contrast Nikon claims that the Nano Crystal Coat and high-performance Nikon Super Integrated Coating deliver superior color reproduction, while substantially reducing ghosting and flare. The minimum focusing distance is 18.5cm. The lens has a recommended retail price of £380, and will be available from March.
