Winners of popular photo competition announced

Bristol-based photographer Vickie Howard is celebrating after being crowned the Royal Horticultural Societies’ Photographer of the Year. Howard wins a £1,000 cash prize and says of her winning image, ‘Sun and rain on Tulips’: “Late evening sun was backlighting the tulips beautifully even as the rain began to fall. My daughter held an umbrella over me while I took the photograph.”
Sam Kaye, from Radlett, scooped the RHS Young Photographer of the Year award after the 11 year-old captivated the judges, including photographer Allan Pollok-Morris, with his image of a hoverfly settling on a flower.
