Press release:
Photo Expedition Norway adds 'Whale Watching' to its expedition portfolio
Photo Expedition Norway has added a Whale Watching Expedition to its expedition portfolio. The 3-day expedition takes place in Vesterålen, which is located on the edge of the continental shelf in north-west Norway. The nutrient-rich ocean in this area is a primary feeding ground for whales and this geographical privilege makes the area perfect for whale expeditions. Photographers will experience some of the world’s largest sea mammals at close range.
The expedition is arranged from the port of Andenes, which is situated on the seaward side of Vesterålen. This is the only place in Norway where the continental shelf is located so close to land. It takes only one hour to sail out to the area. Therefore Andenes is the only spot in Northern Europe where there is a 95% guarantee that whales will be seen on these short outings.
Photo Expedition Norway launched last this year with sponsorship from Land Rover and Epson printers, and the company is working closely with the Norwegian tourism authorities to promote Norway as a photographer’s dream location. The expeditions are suitable for nature, landscape, wildlife and portrait photographers.
Said expedition organizer Paul Olavesen-Stabb: “We have been quite overwhelmed by the response, especially from countries such as Japan and the USA. Interestingly enough, many of the bookings have been from female photographers, and we see that trend repeating in many of the other workshops that we do. The most popular expedition is naturally the dog-sledding & snowmobile trip to Arctic Svalbard as we are planning to stay onboard a schooner which is frozen in the ice”!
The expeditions are suitable for all levels of experience, and on-site photographers are available to provide advice if required. Whether the photographers are experienced or beginners to DSLR photography, the expeditions provide the opportunity to improve technical, creative and post-production knowledge. The evenings comprise of digital editing techniques using images taken during the day, and editors work with Apple Mac, Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom”.
