Canon wins four honours at the 2011 TIPA Awards

Canon has announced the company has won four awards from the Technical Image Press Association (TIPA). Designed to honour the best products launched in the preceding year, the TIPA Awards are recognised as the most coveted imaging accolades worldwide. The 2011 awards again acknowledge the quality present across Canon’s range, awarding honours to models across four different product groups.

Comprising editors from leading photography titles across Europe, the TIPA panel meets annually to discuss the latest products, taking everything from innovation to design and overall product quality into account. The panel selects and acknowledges the outstanding imaging products from the previous 12 month period, and this year awarded prestigious accolades to the following Canon products:

Best DSLR Entry Level: Canon EOS 600D
Best Superzoom Camera: Canon PowerShot SX230 HS
Best Professional Lens: Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L II USM
Best Multifunction Photo Printer: Canon PIXMA MG8150

“We’re very proud to have received four awards from TIPA,” said Steve Marshall, Consumer Imaging Product Marketing Director, Canon Europe. “The TIPA awards are well known for independently acknowledging the very best imaging products, and we’re pleased to be so strongly represented across such a broad range of categories. These awards clearly demonstrate the quality present across Canon’s entire range, from multifunctional printing and consumer cameras to professional imaging, and highlight our commitment to achieving excellence across all categories.”

Nikon
Nikon Europe today announced it has been awarded two prestigious TIPA (Technical Image Press Association) awards, with the D7000 taking the prize for Best D-SLR Advanced and the COOLPIX P300 winning the accolade of Best General Compact Camera.

TIPA is Europe’s leading image press association. Its awards are chosen by 29 photographic magazines across 13 European countries and they are given to products that the jury consider to be the best in category in terms of overall quality, performance and benefit for the defined end-user.

Jordi Brinkman, Product Manager for Nikon Europe says: “We are really proud that the D7000 has followed-up on the success of the D90, which took the same prize in 2009. For our advanced D-SLR users, we always strive to offer cutting-edge technology that will appeal to passionate photographers looking for the next step in creativity. We’re particularly pleased that the esteemed TIPA organization has praised the versatility of the D7000.”

Sander van Velzen, Product Manager for Consumer Products at Nikon Europe adds: “We have had some great feedback for the COOLPIX P300 from discerning photography enthusiasts, who love the newly-developed super bright f/1.8, 24mm wide angle zoom lens and stunning, true-to-life images it produces. The resulting award from TIPA speaks for itself: this is one of our highest-quality compact cameras to date.”

Sony
This year the prestigious Technical Image Press Association has recognised Sony’s ability to continuously innovate its digital imaging product range. Sony's Translucent Mirror Technology won the Best Imaging Innovation award while the Handycam®  NEX-VG10E was awarded the Best Expert Camcorder.

Speaking of why Sony SLT, Translucent Mirror Technology, was named the Best Imaging Innovation, the editorial panel of Europe’s most prestigious photo industry awards states: “Sony has developed translucent mirror technology for a new level of functionality. The advantages of a translucent, fixed mirror technology are evident in the form of real time, phase detect autofocus (also available in Movie Mode) and much increased burst mode speed. By means of SLT design bodies can also be made smaller, thus reducing weight and size without sacrificing functionality and advanced technology benefits”.

Meanwhile, Sony’s Handycam® NEX-VG10E was awarded ‘Best Expert Camcorder in 2011’. “The judging citation states: "This camcorder could be considered the perfect “convergence” imaging system, equally serving the still photo and video worlds. The novel NEX-VG10 uses most of the electronics of Sony NEX-5 CSC, the same Exmor HD CMOS APS-C size sensor and the same E-mount for interchangeable lenses. However, its architecture and layout clearly favours video with a very remarkable performance thanks to 24Mbps codec AVCHD”.
