Rajasthan travel photography retreat launches with Peter Caton
Travel Company KOKOindia (www.KOKOindia.com) is launching its first Travel Photography Retreat, aimed at keen amateurs wishing to transform their digital photography. The ten day in-depth course in Rajasthan, India’s most exotic and photogenic of regions, will be led by award winning International Environmental Documentary Photographer, Peter Caton In November 2011, with a further retreat planned for November 2012.
Students will learn how to improve their photographic skills in a stylish retreat designed to give a fascinating insight into Indian life. Locations have been selected for their unique photographic opportunities, and for their often exclusive access to local people, buildings and culture.
The tour will begin in the exciting city of Delhi, before moving off the beaten track to the traditional town of Nawalgarh in far eastern Rajasthan. After a magical night on desert safari, the tour will spend a few days in the famous holy town of Pushkar, before concluding in the capital ‘Pink City’ of Jaipur.
With a photojournalism career spanning more than fifteen years, British-born Peter continues to return to the Indian sub-continent to document the subjects closest to his heart, such as climate change, HIV and leprosy. His work for mainly non-profit organisations such as Greenpeace and Save the Children has been exhibited worldwide, often solo, and has been featured in major international publications such as The Guardian, Geographical Magazine and Marie-Claire.
Under Peter’s expert tuition, students will explore themes such as ‘Wildlife’ in the grounds of a palace, ‘Architecture’ in a region famous for its painted merchant havelis, and ‘Landscape’ and ‘Lighting’ whilst camping overnight on Royal Safari. Pushkar will offer a chance to spend time with colourful local characters to practice ‘Portraiture,’ and there will be an exclusive Gypsy Dance in the desert to focus on ‘Movement’ and ‘Colour.’
Peter says, “No country on earth inspires budding photographers quite like India, and this retreat will give us some incredible photographic opportunities. Sharing the techniques and experiences of modern day reportage will teach students how to get the very best out of their cameras and their subjects, as well as the confidence to develop their own sense of personal style.”
Accommodation for photography students will be stylish and diverse, ranging from chic boutique hotels to grand country palaces and luxury tented eco-resorts. All transport is by private car and coach. A maximum group size of 8 will ensure personalised photography instruction throughout the retreat.
